18 Mar 1796. LETTER WITH NEWS FROM KIRKBY STEPHEN. Bundle 61, Doc 13. 37 cm x 22 cm, folded in half to make four pages. Third page blank. Red seal with corresponding hole where it was torn open (no loss of writing). John DAWSON 18. March 1796 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. J. OLDMAN Edenhall by favour Mr. J. JACKSON ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kirkby Stephen 18th March 1796 Dear Sir I recd. your’s in course, & one from Mr. GRAVES aquaintin me to prclame at the Churches & Chaples the day you would receive your fines in each Mannor ––––––– I sent one to Warcop Church last Munday & ye other is readey for Soulby Musgrave & Kirkby Stephen to be proclamed Sunday Jno. HARKER has told several Tenants ye whole fine is not due by ye decree only one Saint day is past since ye Death of Sir Phillip MUSGRAVE Barrt., ––––––––––– Mr. Ino. POWLEY Family has & is out of health Mrs. POWLEY & two daughters & ye Servt. Girl theay say it is a fever I think all is getting better but Mrs. POWLEY ––––– Jam: CLARKSON Land was not sold I had a Letter from him to Bye it in for him so I was ye last bidder it went to the prise he fixed on it, he was not over he does not come till Lords Thannet Court in May Mr. MUNKHOUSE was the Manager & did not put in ye parcel in Blands Holm ––––– so you may wright to Sir Ino. Chardin MUSGRAVE about ye other parcel You may see them when you are up. I think it will not be disposed of before he come over ––––– my wife Joins me with kind Compliments to Mrs. OLDMAN & except the same your self I am Sir your’s &c Lead is fallen at Stockton [signed] John DAWSON I have not sold ye last I have offered it at prise of last but cannot sell turn Over ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ we have exceeding fine wether for ye Season yet Corn keeps verey high still ––––– I hope if Mrs. OLDMAN comes up you will make our House your Home when Buisness will allow it my Wife expects it ––––– I have got Ino. BROWNs fine £6 - 0s - 0d Mr. BIRD has not said aney thing for Little Musgrave Tythe tho I metioned it to James TAYLOR Month since –––––
