24 Feb 1796. LETTER ABOUT COMMONS ENCLOSURE BILL. Bundle 61, Doc 18. 19 cm x 15.5 cm, originally folded in half to make four pages. Remains of a black seal and corresponding torn off corner where it was broken open. The writer was John Orfeur YATES. Mr. YATES 24. Feby. 1796 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr Sir / I think it unnecessary for me to address Sr. John directly on the on the Subject of the general inclosure bill, as from the Publicity of the matter he will have turned it in his mind & formed an opinion thereon. All I wish to know is whithir it meets with his Concurrence upon what has already appeared. The meeting is to consider the Utility or inutility of the bill as far as relates to this County, if the former opinion prevails, no more than a general petition to Parliamt is at present meant on that head signifying it appears so to the County ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ without pointing out any particular mode, leaving that intirely to the Wisdom of the House. Sir Johns great Interest in these two northern Counties where so much common & waste land is, will by his concurrence signifyed by any of his Friends add greatly to the respectability of the Petition, and he & Gentlemen like him on the Spot when the matter comes on, will have opportunities both of receiving from & conveying to the Members information, we so distantly situated cannot have. I beg my respectfull Compts to Sr John ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ & Lady MUSGRAVE & am Sir yr. obed Servt [signed] J. O. YATES Skirwith Abbey 24 Feby 1796
