29 Nov 1791. LETTER ABOUT STAFFIELD MANOR COURT. Bundle 60, Doc 2. 27.5 cm x 18.5 cm, folded in half to make four pages. Pages 2 and 4 are blank. Red seal. Ino. DIXON 29. Novr. 1791 ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. OLDMAN Edenhall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sir Last Sunday I was desird. (by the Legatees of my Aunt M. BOWMAN) to appear at Naward Castle on Thursday first & Assist in settling some Disputes between the Heir at Law & her Son – As I am an Executor in the above Business ‘tis my wish to attend ––––– The Court for Staffield Manor happening upon the same day, I wrote Mr. RAMSHAY, desiring he would transact the Business tomorrow, & if he be not previously engagd. I have no doubt but he will agree to it ––– but as ‘tis possible the Case may be otherwise, I have desird. the Clark of this Town Viz your Pie Powder Crier to officiate in my place – I have Summond. a part of the Jury and shall tell the Rest this morning to Appear at J. JEFFERSON’s half past 10 OClock –– T. RAILTON & Son are both upon the Jury & wish to see you at Highbankhill (before the business begin) relating the Plantation Hedge which they are now casting ––– This morning I go to Carlisle & from thence to Brampton –– Least the Custom of this Manor escape yr. Memory, I write it down thus, Admittance 14d, Summong. Jury 2s, for each person found Tenant 4d, but I Suppose Ino. MORESBY’s Admittance as heir at Law to his Brother Chr. Deceasd. must be upon a Stamp of 7s. ––– I am Sir yr. most H. Servt. [signed] Ino. DIXON Kirkosd. Tuesday Morning) P.S.
