26 Aug 1806. ALLOWANCE FOR JAVELIN MAN AT CARLISLE ASSIZES. A neat and clean receipt. 2” x 6”. When the Assizes were held there would be a procession through the town with the judge in his robes escorted by the Sheriff’s Javelin Men who were local constables in their best uniforms. R. HETHERINGTON 0 . 7 . 0 August 26th. 1806 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Augst. 26th. Placed to the acct. of Sir J. C MUSGRAVE seven shillings which was allowed to Richd.
